You Can Add Another Room To Your Home: Here’s How

Wouldn’t it be great to have another room in your house? It would mean you could have that additional bedroom (or even master suite), dining room, playroom, study, or whatever else you needed without the bother of having to sell your current home and move to something larger.

This might seem like an ideal plan, but it can be hard to see how it could be done without building an actual extension, which would involve planning and many thousands of dollars. Is there is another way? The good news is that, for some homes, at least, there is. Read on to find out more.

Use The Garage

Not every house comes with a garage, so this idea isn’t going to work for everyone, but if you do have a garage, this could become a superb home office or den, for example. If you have older relatives coming to live with you, it could make a great downstairs bedroom. It could be anything.

It might not be possible to add windows to your garage, depending on where it is situated and what it is made of, and this could be the sacrifice you have to make to get a great-sized room, but even so, it’s worth measuring up and considering. You don’t even have to advertise the fact that you have a room downstairs (which might be better for security reasons), but thinking about traditional garage doors, it blends in

Enclose Your Patio

If you have a backyard and there is a patio or decked area within it, this could easily become part of your house rather than an outside space that potentially doesn’t get much use. All you need to do is enclose the patio, and you have another room to use as you want to. We’ve made it sound rather easy, and of course, there is work involved – work that is best done by a professional – but even so, the result would be a brand new, fully functional room at the back of your house that wasn’t there before. It could even add value to your home
Not only will you have a new, useful room, but, if you keep it as open to the natural light outside as possible, you will have the best of both worlds, with the ability to enjoy the good weather, or even bad weather, from the comfort of a custom-built room in your home.

Attic Conversion

What is your attic currently used for? It could be a storage space, which is the case for most people. However, is that really necessary? Would it be better to declutter your home, have less to store, and then use the attic as a new room? With experts to ensure there is light and plumbing, you could make this into a gorgeous master suite, giving you an entire floor to yourself. Or it could make an ideal playroom or study area, for example. No matter what you want to use this room for, the attic is usually a large space, and it is going to waste if you only use it for storing boxes.

When it comes to converting your attic, there will be some rules to follow. You may need to get permission to have the work carried out, and since a staircase will need to be put in, this has to comply with zoning rules and safety guidelines. This is why it’s best not to do the work yourself.
