It is our pleasure to invite you to the ninth International Conference on Mobile Systems, Applications, and Service, or all the more basically MobiSys 2011. The current year’s meeting proceeds with the custom of giving a highly-selective gathering to state-of-the-art research that takes an expansive framework’s viewpoint of portable processing. Proceeding with patterns from last year, there is a solid appearance for research connected with cell phones that mirrors their developing force as strong, programmable portable frameworks. Research on energy-productivity in many pretenses is likewise exceptionally well known. An expansive arrangement of different themes is addressed in the program, covering parts of safety, sensor organizations and remote conventions, and portable applications and administrations.

We got 141 entries, approximately a 10% increment from the earlier year, as MobiSys keeps on developing as a scene. The papers were assessed as in past years, with a two-round survey process. Each paper got three audits during the first round. A big part of the papers then, at that point, progressed to the second round, where they got two further audits. By and large, our enthusiastic PC individuals created north of 560 surveys. To choose the program, we examined 55 papers at the entire day up close and personal PC meeting straightforwardly following the HotMobile studio in Phoenix, AZ. The subsequent program that you see before you include 25 profoundly aggressive papers. These papers were additionally shepherded by a PC part to further develop their show.

Just as papers, we are exceptionally lucky to have a phenomenal line-up of speakers who gain by our “Washington, DC” area: Dr. Edward Felten will talk in his new job as Chief Technologist for the FTC, and Dr. Douglas Sicker will talk in his job as the Chief Technologist for the FCC. What’s more similar to a custom for MobiSys, the beneficiary of the SIGMOBILE Outstanding Contributor Award will convey a featured discussion; this year we definitely anticipate hearing from Prof. Mahadev “Satya” Satyanarayanan. The specialized program additionally incorporates an anxiously expected occasion, the banner and show meeting. This year we have 23 showings and 11 banners that feature new examinations! We particularly need to say thanks to Moustafa Youssef from EJUST, Egypt for assembling this meeting as the Posters/Demos Chair.

Using mobile phones to write in the air

Numerous sensors in modern mobile phones enable a range of people-centric applications. This paper envisions a system called PhonePoint Pen that uses the in-built accelerometer in mobile phones to recognize human writing. By holding the phone like a pen, a user should be able to write short messages or draw simple diagrams in the air. The acceleration due to hand gestures can be translated into geometric strokes, and recognized as characters. We prototype the PhonePoint Pen on the Honor V6  platform and evaluate it through real users. honor magic v price Results show that English characters can be identified with an average accuracy of 91.9% if the users conform to a few reasonable constraints. Future work is focused on refining the prototype, with the goal of offering a new user experience that complements keyboards and touch screens.
