You came to this page because you want to speed up DDR laptop memory or try to upgrade your laptop, but what to do. Well, at least you didnā€™t go down without explaining yourself first.

Types of DDR laptop memory

An improved (faster) version of the SDRAM (synchronous dynamic random access memory) for DDR double data rate. Almost all laptops sold today use a given (older or newer) version of the DDR laptop memory sold after 2002. Keep in mind this simple English DDR, which is faster than standard SDRAM because it can send data every time it drops and rises around the clock, hence its name ā€œDoubleā€. Going forward, what kind of laptop memory do we have?

DDR laptop memory, otherwise known as DDR1 (not just the official name, but DDR) or DDR SDRAM is the oldest and slowest. This is basically at speeds of up to 1 GB (per module) and up to 400 MHz (effective).

What DDR laptop memory do I need?

When updating your laptop memory, you need to find out what kind of DDR memory your laptop uses. Failure to do so means a failure to update for a very simple reason ā€“ not all versions of the DDR are compatible and do not use different wake connectors depending on the number of nails (and many other technical aspects).

When it comes to memory awakening, it is important to include memory modules. Unlike the desktop, your laptop uses a smaller version of the memory space, which takes up less space. As a result, the memory modules used on laptops are smaller. You may not have heard of DIMM (Dual In-Line Memory Module) before, especially if you are updating your desktop computer (now is the best time to add your memory!). The laptop uses SO-DIMM ā€“ add a ā€˜small schemeā€™ to the DIMM. It doesnā€™t really matter what the name is, for example, you canā€™t put DIMM in the memory of SO-DIMM and vice versa. DIMMs are much longer than SO-DIMMs and are not designed for use on laptops. Before we go any further, letā€™s say that SODIMM can be stumbled upon SO-DIMM ā€“ thatā€™s right!

In conclusion, we know that different DDRs, different versions of DDR are not compatible, and our laptop has DIMM around the home and / or office. Not applicable (if you have one), we need to decide what DDR memory we need, especially what works on our laptop.

It gives you a good idea of ā€‹ā€‹the age of your laptop. Laptops manufactured in 2001-2003 are mostly DDR-based. The laptops manufactured in 2004-2007 were DDR2, and the last laptops manufactured since 2008 were DDR3 (although some use DDR2). With this information you will know whether you are buying DDR SODIMM, DDR2 SODIMM or DDR3 SODIMM.

Another factor is the memory controller on the laptop. The easiest way to find this out (and find out what kind of DDR is for us) is diagnostic software.
