With the right oil for your hair, the dream of shiny and healthy hair will finally come true. We will now explain what you should consider when using it and how you can find the best strain for you.

The benefits of oils

Straw becomes silk! Vegetable oils are an insider tip for healthy and shiny hair. They should be the ultimate solution for broken tips, protruding hairs, hair breakage and split ends. Immediately shine and suppleness, completely without chemicals: that sounds almost too good to be true.

But what is special about vegetable oils? In any case, natural moisturizers are not necessarily cheap. However, the oils have three advantages that set them apart from other care products:

  1. Excellent moisture storage. We already learned in biology class: Oils do not mix with water. They trap water dropletsThis property makes them the ideal beauty booster for our hair. This is because oils prevent water from evaporating on the hair. This protects the hair fiber from possible moisture loss all day long.
  2. Effective protection. The fatty acids contained in the vegetable oil make our hair increasingly resistant. The fats wrap around every single hair fiber like a thin film and keep it elastic. This prevents the hair from breaking off and the sensitive tips no longer split (bye, split ends!).
  3. Real care ingredients. While film formers such as silicones or mineral oils do not contain any nourishing ingredients, vegetable oils bring numerous nutrients with them. The hair is regenerated and strengthened by vitamins and minerals. This is why vegetable oils not only have a superficial effect – they also convince with a real depth effect.

So there are good reasons to pamper your hair with vegetable oils. But we can only look forward to these benefits if we choose the right type of oil for our hair type. Otherwise, the hair will look greasy quickly. And of course, we don’t want that!

Below we will introduce you to the best choice for every hair texture.

Hair oils for fine hair

With a diameter of around 0.04 millimeters, fine hair is only half as thick as normal hair. As a result, they quickly look flat and lifeless. The wrong oil weighs down the hair fiber and takes the momentum out of the lengths.

But there is good news: not all hair oils have a straightening effect. If you opt for so-called dry oils, you are best advised.

These types of oil are rather thin and easy to distribute in the hair. They contain a high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids and are therefore quickly absorbed without leaving a heavy film of fat. So exactly what you need as a fine hair wearer!

A recommended dry oil is, for example, argan oil. It nourishes fine hair without weighing it down or feeling sticky. Plus point for all fragrance-sensitive: argan oil has a very unobtrusive smell. We explain here how to use argan oil for hair correctly.

Not a fan of argan oil? No problem. In addition, grape seed oil or safflower oil comes into question, which is a little cheaper in comparison. 

Hair oils for thick hair and natural curls

If you have thick hair or natural curls, you can use rich oils. The so-called non-dry oils are suitable here. Due to the higher proportion of saturated fatty acids, these types of oil are thicker and somewhat tough. But don’t worry, you’ll get used to it quickly.

The absolute classic among the non-dry oils is olive oil. The best thing to do here is to opt for virgin olive oil. This strain is not heat-treated and contains most of the vitamins and nutrients.

Olive oil contains an extremely high proportion of vitamin E, a powerful radical scavenger. It protects your hair from harmful external influences that can result from UV radiation, heat, or environmental toxins.

You don’t really like the typical olive oil smell? Otherwise, macadamia or coconut oil is also suitable for your hair. 

Hair oils for normal thick hair

Your hair is neither particularly thick nor very fine? For normal hair, semi-dry oils are the best choice. Not too thin, not too viscous – these types of oil are the perfect compromise.

The semi-dry oils include, for example, apricot kernel oil. This enzyme-rich beauty booster smells nice and fruity and slightly sweet. This oil pampers your hair with essential fatty acids and the B vitamins it contains.

Alternatively, you can opt for the slightly nutty-smelling sesame oil, which is also one of the semi-dry oils. 

Hair oils for oily hair

Help, no more fat, please! This thought might come up now if you suffer from greasy hair. As soon as you’ve washed your hair, the roots are already greasy again. While this is completely harmless, it can be a bit annoying.

But you don’t have to forego the benefits of oil for your hair either. The feather-light burdock root oil is a real insider tip for quickly greasy manes. This type of oil is extremely fluid and is therefore particularly easy to distribute along the lengths. It only takes a few drops to moisturize the tips.

Burdock root oil but not only offers you a good care effect. It is also anti-inflammatory and soothing to the skin. If you are currently struggling with an itchy scalp or dandruff, the oil can also be massaged into the skin. Preferably before shampooing. Leave on for 15 minutes and wash and care for as usual. So the scalp is soothed, the lengths are cared for – and we are happy. 

Hair oils for damaged hair

The hairs break off and you are angry about broken lengths? The slightly sweet-smelling almond oil contains an active ingredient that can work wonders on damaged hair: biotin!

This trace element is a natural component of our hair. If we apply it from the outside, the hair structure is sustainably strengthened. Biotin cements porous areas in the hair and gives the tips more stability.

It also contains almond oil Monounsaturated fatty acids that protect hair from external damage. 

Oil for hair: tips on how to use it correctly

You now know which types of oil are best for your hair type. But how do you use them correctly? Basically, there is one important rule:

Since all vegetable oils include water, it’s best to apply it to damp hair. This will prevent evaporation and lock the moisture in the hair – all day long. This gives the hair fiber more elasticity and becomes more resistant.

Oils have one great advantage: the natural raw material is particularly versatile. So you can incorporate them into your hair routine in very different ways. The best thing to do is to try out which of these three possible uses suits you best:

  • Leave-in care : Spread a few drops of oil over the damp lengths after shampooing. Attention, it takes a bit of skill to find out which amount is optimal. The hair should look well-groomed and shiny, but not greasy.
  • Pre-Wash Treatment : Moisten all of your hair and distribute a good portion of your favorite oil from roots to ends. Leave on for at least 15 minutes and wash off with the shampoo. The insider tip for extremely dull hair!
  • Conditioner or conditioner additive : Spice up your current conditioner by adding a few drops of oil. Of course, this also works with hair treatments. You give the hair an extra dose of care.

Identify suitable oils

Warning, not all oil is created equal! Many alleged hair oils mainly contain silicones and mineral oils. These chemical fillers stretch the real (expensive!) Oils and give manufacturers a cost advantage. Unfortunately, these artificial film formers have a drying effect in the long run, as they seal the hair against real care ingredients. Not only care should be free from these plastics. It is best to opt for a silicone-free shampoo so that the hair remains silicone-free. 

For hair oil, choose a pure oil to optimally care for the lengths. A good product consists exclusively of real vegetable oil – 100 percent. Just take a look at the ingredients. No chemical club should be discovered here, just the name of the vegetable oil. You can recognize argan oil, for example, by the term “Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil”.
